RPT = Registered Piano Technician!

Photography by Karen Cox

I’ve been around music all my life.

Following a Music Degree from UCC in Cork specialising in piano performance, my 20s were spent as a school music teacher, music lecturer, piano tutor, and performer. But a chance move to North Carolina in 2007 opened a door to piano technology, and I’ve not looked back. Training in UWO, Ontario, Canada, I passed stringent exams to become a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) with the US Piano Technician’s Guild (PTG) , one of only 2 in Ireland.

I continue to attend training conferences in the USA with the PTG, seminars at the prestigious Klangmanufaktur in Hamburg in Steinway concert piano preparation, and work closely with experienced colleagues in the US and Ireland in piano rebuilding and piano action refurbishment. I service instruments for Limerick School of Music, University of Limerick, Irish Chamber Orchestra, TU Dublin, Glor Theatre in Ennis, Killaloe Music Festival, Lime Tree Theatre Limerick, and institutions and private clients throughout the midwest of Ireland. I also maintain an active interest in rebuilding and refurbishing pianos..

The quality of of your instrument relates directly to the training and experience of your technician. Musical instruments uniquely require consistent maintenance to play and sound their best, and to allow your artistic expression and enjoyment blossom. I will happily work with you to realise your piano’s potential, and enhance your musical life.

My harpsichord work includes work with the Dutch harpsichord builder Anton Amir , and concert tuning for Rachel Factor of TU Dublin, at Windmill Lane Studios, and for Limerick Early Music Festival, Irish Chamber Orchestra, and Irish World Academy.
